Cynum Formula helps calm the Liver and suppress hyperactive Liver Yang. It helps reduce blood pressure for patients with essential hypertension, a high blood pressure that is not caused by another medical condition.
1. Hypertension and Liver yang hyperactivity Blood pressure measurements fall into four categories including normal blood pressure that is below 120/80 mm Hg, an elevated blood pressure with a systolic pressure ranging from 120 to 129 mm Hg and a diastolic pressure below 80 mm Hg; stage 1 hypertension with systolic pressure ranging from 130 to 139 mm HG or a diastolic pressure ranging from 80 to 89 m HG; and stage 2 hypertension with systolic pressure of 140 mm Hg or higher or a diastolic pressure of 90 mm Hg or higher. Most patients do not experience any symptoms, even if their blood pressure is very high. Some may experience headaches, dizziness and shortness of breath. Hypertension is a key risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. The excessive pressure on the artery walls can damage the arteries causing stroke, heart attack, aneurysm, heart failure, chronic kidney disease or kidney failure, metabolic syndrome, sexual dysfunction, vision loss, and memory loss.
The liver and kidneys play a vital role in regulating blood pressure using a hormone system including the reninangiotensin system (RAS), and renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS). Renin is secreted by the kidneys when blood pressure is low. Renin converts angiotensinogen produced by the liver to angiotensin I. Angiotensin I is subsequently converted to angiotensin II by the angiotensināconverting enzyme (ACE) found in the lungs. Angiotensin II then binds to the type I angiotensin II receptor (AT1) on the blood vessel cells and trigger vascular smooth muscle contractions to raise blood pressure. Angiotensin II also stimulates the secretion of aldosterone from the adrenal gland to increase the reabsorption of sodium and water into the blood by the kidneys, while at the same time excreting potassium, to maintain electrolyte balance. This increases the volume of extracellular fluid in the body as well as blood pressure.
Primary or essential hypertension is not caused by another medical condition, while secondary hypertension is caused by other conditions or medications. Primary hypertension is caused by over expression of RAS components including Renin, angiotensinogen, ACE and AT1.
In TCM, the increased levels of the RAS components and the resulting hypertension is a condition referred to as Liver Yang Hyperactivity.
2. Hypertension and Liver Wind Increased sensitivity of AT1 to angiotensin II can also be the cause of primary hypertension. The hyperactive AT1 can cause vascular hypersensitivity with increased levels of vasocontraction leading to high blood pressure. Patients with liver conditions often also have vascular hypersensitivity. In TCM, the increased sensitivity of AT1 and the resulting vasocontraction and hypertension is a condition referred to as Liver Wind.
3. Hypertension and Atherosclerosis Atherosclerosis involves the build-up of fats, cholesterol, calcium, and other substances in the artery walls. The plaque can cause the hardening and narrowing of the arteries. Renal arteries that become narrowed can lead to declined kidney function and/or structure. The condition results in reduced blood flow to the kidneys causing an excess amount of renin production leading to high blood pressure.
4. Hypertension and Chronic kidney disease (CKD) Chronic kidney disease can cause reduced blood flow to the kidneys resulting in an overproduction of renin and aldosterone causing increased levels of RAAS components leading to high blood pressure. Reduced kidney function can also cause retention of water and salt leading to high blood pressure.
Cynum calms the Liver and suppresses hyperactive Liver Yang to decrease the levels of RAS components and reduce blood pressure for patients with essential hypertension. For patients with essential hypertension that is caused by increased vasocontraction due to Liver wind, Breez in combination with Brown and LC Balancer are required.
For patients with secondary hypertension caused by Atherosclerosis, CV in combination with B-2, Qi Booster or Vigorall are required. For patients with secondary hypertension caused by CKD, LC Balancer, Xcel, and KS are required if patientās kidney condition is in stage 1, and 2. Formula C is also required if the condition is stage 3-5. Anemic is required if patients developed anemia.
